River and landscape interests

At Murchison, the river and the falls can provide a clear purpose beyond game drives. Boat routes and falls access differ, so confirm the exact product instead of assuming one ticket includes every viewpoint or landing.

Queen Elizabeth offers the Kazinga Channel and a range of habitats spread across distinct areas. Ishasha’s lion interest is not the same location as every northern boat or drive departure. Choose the accommodation and number of nights around the places you actually intend to use.

Wildlife without a guarantee

Both parks support a safari built around observation, but no large-mammal sighting is a contractual certainty. Murchison’s river perspective and Queen Elizabeth’s channel and savanna mix can each make quiet periods interesting.

Tree-climbing lions in Ishasha are a possibility, not a guaranteed performance. If that single photograph is the only reason you prefer Queen Elizabeth, reconsider whether the rest of the park and route still appeal when the lions are out of view.

The connection to primate permits

Queen Elizabeth can fit between Kibale and a suitably chosen Bwindi sector on a western road circuit. That does not make every transfer short, but it can reduce the need to return across the country. Confirm the Bwindi sector before finalising the southern stage.

Murchison can precede Kibale on a longer itinerary, with a substantial road day between them. Adding it to an already short gorilla-and-chimpanzee trip may require removing something else or adding days. Do not hide that transfer inside a nominal full safari day.

Fees and total value

The live UWA park pages display USD 45 for a foreign nonresident adult at Murchison and USD 40 at Queen Elizabeth. The linked general tariff has a June 2026 end date, so confirm the payable amount for your actual booking. Activities and vehicle costs remain separate.

The displayed USD 5 entry difference is unlikely to describe the whole budget difference. Number of nights, guide and vehicle use, boat tickets and the extra road stage can matter more. Compare complete, dated quotations rather than choosing from the admission line alone.

Where to sleep

For Murchison, understand how the base connects with the chosen river departure, drive area and falls access. For Queen Elizabeth, understand whether you are based for northern activities or an Ishasha programme.

In both, a scenic room can be inconvenient for a packed itinerary. Ask the operator to show a realistic day from that specific property, including transfers and meals.

Which choice fits your trip?

Choose Queen Elizabeth when it gives a coherent western route around confirmed primate permits. Choose Murchison when the Nile-and-falls stage is a priority you can give proper time.

Include both on a longer trip when the contrast is worth the extra transfer. Otherwise, use one park well and leave space around the forest days.

Questions & answers

Which is better for a short gorilla-and-chimp trip?

Queen Elizabeth often fits the western sequence more directly, but the actual permit sectors and route determine the answer.

Which guarantees more wildlife?

Neither. Compare habitat, guiding and usable time without a guaranteed sighting claim.

Are the boat trips included in entry?

Do not assume so. Confirm the operator, route, departure and separate ticket or package inclusion.

Is the USD 5 entry difference the whole cost difference?

No. Transport, nights, activities and vehicle arrangements can be much more consequential.
