Use Kampala or Entebbe as a proper opening chapter, not only the airport transfer. A calm first night makes the rest of the route easier to judge.

Pick west or east.
A week is enough for a clear direction: western highlands and long green roads, or Jinja, the Nile and the eastern route. Both deserve more than a rushed stop.
Before departure
Protect the last day.
Bring the route back close to your departure point. A small buffer gives weather, road time and a good unplanned afternoon somewhere to go.
