Visa options and the official portal

Check eligibility before paying: some nationalities are exempt, and a residence document is not automatically equivalent to an exemption. Use the official Immigration portal rather than a website whose main function is reselling the application.

Bank charges can apply. The East Africa Tourist Visa is not a general visa for every East African country. Confirm its current Kenya-Uganda-Rwanda conditions before relying on it.

Prepare the application

The tourist-visa service page asks for a passport bio-data copy with at least six months of validity, a tour plan, travel itinerary or booking, a recent passport photograph and accommodation details. For a private stay, provide the relevant address and host information requested by the form.

Use clear files with consistent spellings, passport numbers and dates. Documents should be in English according to the service page. If the portal asks for additional evidence, respond through the official process rather than starting multiple paid applications in the hope that one is faster.

Submit, pay and retain the approval

Select the correct application type, complete the form, upload the requested documents and review the summary before payment. Save the application reference, receipt and the email address used. A payment receipt is not the same as an approval letter.

Download the approval when it is issued and carry it together with the passport and supporting documents. Immigration may need to capture biometrics or check the documents at the border. The official warning says the government does not charge an extra fee to fast-track a visa; treat a third-party promise of government priority cautiously.

Timing and a regional itinerary

The tourist-visa page says the approval authorisation is valid for 90 days from approval and becomes invalid if not used within that window. That is a travel-to-use deadline; it should not be confused with a guaranteed 90-day stay on arrival. Read the actual approval and entry permission.

For Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda together, compare the regional visa’s current conditions with separate entry permissions. Check which country must issue it, what happens if you leave the participating countries and whether your passport is eligible. Do not assume Kenya’s eTA and a regional visa are interchangeable products.

East Africa Tourist Visa: the conditions that matter

Uganda Immigration describes this as a tourism-only, multiple-entry visa for Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda. Its stated validity is 90 days, and the issuing country must be the first point of entry. It does not permit employment and is not a visa for Tanzania or every East African country.

The published conditions say it is not renewable on expiry or after leaving the three-country bloc. Before inserting a Tanzania or other external side trip, confirm what fresh entry permission would be needed on return. For an Uganda-issued application, the listed attachments include passport, photo, yellow-fever certificate, return ticket and itinerary; use the live form for your case.

Health documents and changes of plan

Check current yellow-fever entry requirements for your age and itinerary, including transit countries. A clinician can advise on vaccination or medical contraindications, while the immigration authority determines the evidence needed for entry.

If an application is refused or needs correction, use the official reference and support channel. The service page states visa fees are non-refundable. Avoid buying a second application from an agent without first understanding the reason the original failed.

Processing time is not a departure guarantee

Immigration’s anti-fraud notice describes processing as less than three working days. Treat that as published guidance, not a promise for an incomplete or complex application. Apply with enough margin for additional-document requests and read the decision before travelling.

If someone advertises faster processing for an extra payment, distinguish their own service charge from an official government fee. Keep the application under an email address you can access and save the reference needed to check its status.

Questions & answers

What is the Uganda tourist visa fee?

The Immigration service page lists USD 50 for a single-entry tourist visa, plus applicable bank charges.

Can I pay for government fast-tracking?

Uganda Immigration’s fraud warning says it does not charge an additional fee for fast-tracking visas. A commercial service fee is not proof of official priority.

Is the approval letter the same as permission to stay 90 days?

No. The published 90-day window concerns using the approval to travel. Read the stay granted in your actual visa or entry permission.

Where should I apply?

Use visas.immigration.go.ug, linked by Uganda Immigration. Check whether your nationality needs a visa before applying.
