Route and travel time

Transfer plan: check against the exact accommodation
LegDistance or geographic referenceTime to allow
Entebbe ↔ Bwindi sectorCorrect airstrip plus actual mountain-road transferUse the booked schedule; UWA’s air reference is about 1 hour 10 minutes before road legs
Entebbe → NairobiInternational flight, immigration and airport transferConfirm the actual service and entry eligibility
Nairobi ↔ MaraWilson/JKIA distinction and camp airstrip matterUse the current domestic schedule and camp transfer
Nairobi ↔ Kenya coastActual coastal airport and hotel route requiredInclude both ground legs and baggage/check-in requirements

Road-time ranges are editorial planning allowances including ordinary breaks, not measured current traffic. Where an official distance is available it is identified; other distances need confirmation for the chosen gate and lodge. Safari driving is additional.

Book these decisions first

Obtain the gorilla permit first, then confirm the whole flight sequence before non-refundable accommodation. Check Uganda and Kenya entry requirements separately; do not infer that a visa or approval automatically covers both.

The budget includes no flight or vehicle price: those rows are excluded, not free. It is only an accommodation, food and permit illustration. At eligible low-season Uganda dates or January-June Mara dates, recalculate the relevant lines and read their conditions.

Day 1: Arrive in Entebbe

Rest after the international flight and check the gorilla permit, sector and next day’s domestic connection. Confirm baggage and storage arrangements before heading southwest.

Day 2: Fly towards the booked Bwindi sector

Use the correct Kihihi or Kisoro connection and a prearranged road transfer to the lodge. Arrive before the permit day and confirm the morning briefing logistics.

Day 3: Gorilla tracking

Keep the day for the trek and recovery, with no fixed long transfer afterwards. Follow the ranger’s instructions and the permit’s health conditions.

Day 4: Return to Entebbe

Use the confirmed airstrip transfer and domestic flight. Stay in Entebbe rather than chaining an uncertain forest departure directly to the next country’s safari.

Day 5: Fly to Nairobi

Use a confirmed international service and the entry approval applicable to your passport. Arrange the Nairobi airport transfer and prepare for the separate Mara flight. Airline and border procedures have their own time and baggage requirements.

Day 6: Travel to the Mara

Use the exact booked airstrip and camp pickup. Clarify whether the stay is in the reserve, Triangle or a conservancy and what entry is included. Keep the first drive conditional on the actual arrival.

Day 7: Full Mara safari day

Explore a coherent area with the guide and allow time for observation and breaks. Migration interest remains a possibility, not a guaranteed crossing.

Day 8: Another Mara day

Choose a different habitat or a patient return without changing accommodation. A balloon or specialist activity is optional and excluded from the sample budget.

Day 9: Return to Nairobi

This conservative version uses a Nairobi overnight before continuing to the coast. A confirmed direct Mara-to-coast routing could change the sequence, but should not be assumed from a generic flight map.

Day 10: Fly to the chosen Kenya coast base

For Diani, compare Ukunda and Mombasa with the actual road transfer. Arrive without a fixed afternoon excursion and learn the property’s tide and swimming arrangements.

Day 11: A coast day without transfers

Rest after the intensive travel sequence. Choose an optional water activity only with a competent provider and suitable conditions.

Day 12: A flexible coast day

Leave space for a postponed boat trip or simply another quiet day. Staying in one base preserves more usable time than adding a second beach town.

Day 13: Return to Nairobi

Use the confirmed airport and flight, collect any stored luggage and keep a final overnight before the international departure.

Day 14: International departure

Keep the airport transfer and check-in margin protected. The trip finishes in Kenya; flights into Uganda and out of Kenya must be booked on that basis.

A transparent budget you can adapt

The calculation below is an illustrative planning scenario for two adults sharing a room and a private road vehicle. Room, food and vehicle amounts are explicit assumptions chosen to make the arithmetic visible, not current supplier prices or a quote. Replace them with dated offers before booking.

Only the park and permit figures identified as published tariffs are sourced prices. Count paid access periods from the actual entry and exit times; the sample below does not establish how many tickets your operator will charge. Do not pay for a fee twice if it is already included in a package.

How to adapt the route

If a confirmed direct Mara-to-coast flight makes sense, use the saved Nairobi night to extend one coast base. Preserve the final international-departure buffer.

If the total airfare or complexity is too high, choose either a complete Uganda circuit or a Kenya safari-and-beach trip. Adding chimpanzees, another safari park and another country to this route requires additional days.

Questions & answers

Is this a bookable package?

No. It is an editorial route with explicit budget assumptions. Obtain dated transport, accommodation and activity confirmations from providers.

Are the road times guaranteed?

No. The exact gate, lodge, traffic, weather and stops determine the journey. Keep daylight and a buffer before fixed departures.

Does the subtotal include every cost?

No. Read the exclusions and replace every assumed amount with a quote. Check whether a package already includes park or permit lines.

Should I add another destination?

Only after the actual transfers still leave worthwhile time at each base. Removing a stop is often the simplest way to protect the pace.
