Route and travel time

Transfer plan: check against the exact accommodation
LegDistance or geographic referenceTime to allow
Entebbe / Kampala → BwindiExact sector and route required; UWA lists substantially different northern and southern approachesEditorial allowance 9-11 hours with breaks, potentially longer
Lodge → briefing pointChoose a conveniently placed base; request actual kilometresConfirm the early transfer in writing
Bwindi → EntebbeFull return road day from the actual sectorEditorial allowance 9-11 hours, with a final overnight before the flight

Road-time ranges are editorial planning allowances including ordinary breaks, not measured current traffic. Where an official distance is available it is identified; other distances need confirmation for the chosen gate and lodge. Safari driving is additional.

Book these decisions first

The USD 80 room, USD 15 daily food and USD 180 vehicle-day values are illustrative inputs for two adults sharing, not verified supplier offers. Replace them with actual quotes and compare the complete total.

UWA’s eligible April, May and November foreign nonresident tracking offer is USD 600, which would reduce the permit line by USD 200. It cannot be rescheduled under the offer, so compare that restriction with the flexibility you need before choosing it.

Day 1: Arrive in Entebbe

Choose a modest base with a reliable airport transfer and clear meal costs. Confirm the operator’s identity, permit confirmation and the following morning’s departure before resting.

Day 2: Drive to the booked Bwindi sector

Give the long road journey a full day with breaks. Use a room near the correct briefing point rather than a cheaper address requiring a difficult cross-sector morning transfer.

Day 3: Gorilla tracking

Attend the briefing with the correct documents and follow health and distance rules. Keep the afternoon free and include any chosen porter support in the real budget rather than pretending it is covered by the room.

Day 4: A low-pressure forest-base day

Rest or choose one locally authorised activity only if the confirmed cost fits. This day provides recovery and avoids spending every night in a different place. It is not a second tracking encounter.

Day 5: Return to Entebbe

Use a daylight road plan with breaks and a final airport-area overnight. An optional attraction en route should be removed if it threatens a sensible arrival.

Day 6: Departure

Keep enough money and time for the final airport transfer. Retain a reserve for transport changes rather than allocating every remaining amount to optional activities.

A transparent budget you can adapt

The calculation below is an illustrative planning scenario for two adults sharing a room and a private road vehicle. Room, food and vehicle amounts are explicit assumptions chosen to make the arithmetic visible, not current supplier prices or a quote. Replace them with dated offers before booking.

Only the park and permit figures identified as published tariffs are sourced prices. Count paid access periods from the actual entry and exit times; the sample below does not establish how many tickets your operator will charge. Do not pay for a fee twice if it is already included in a package.

How to adapt the route

A shared licensed-operator itinerary may reduce the per-person vehicle cost, but confirm the departure, group arrangements, sector, room basis and all fees. A vague promise of a permit is not evidence that it has been secured.

If the long direct road days are too demanding, add a properly priced overnight break or compare a flight. Do not solve fatigue by demanding faster driving or by removing the last Entebbe night.

Questions & answers

Is this a bookable package?

No. It is an editorial route with explicit budget assumptions. Obtain dated transport, accommodation and activity confirmations from providers.

Are the road times guaranteed?

No. The exact gate, lodge, traffic, weather and stops determine the journey. Keep daylight and a buffer before fixed departures.

Does the subtotal include every cost?

No. Read the exclusions and replace every assumed amount with a quote. Check whether a package already includes park or permit lines.

Should I add another destination?

Only after the actual transfers still leave worthwhile time at each base. Removing a stop is often the simplest way to protect the pace.
