Route and travel time
| Leg | Distance or geographic reference | Time to allow |
|---|---|---|
| Entebbe / Kampala → Kibale | UWA reference about 326 km from Kampala; add the exact starting and final legs | Editorial allowance 6-8 hours from Entebbe |
| Kibale → Bwindi sector | Confirm actual base-to-base routed kilometres and whether any paid park transit is involved | Editorial allowance 7-10 hours depending on sector and conditions |
| Bwindi lodge → correct airstrip | Northern and southern sector access differs | Obtain the specific transfer time; do not substitute flight duration |
| Airstrip → Entebbe | UWA describes about 1 hour 10 minutes for the southwest flight reference | Use the actual booked schedule and any intermediate stops |
Road-time ranges are editorial planning allowances including ordinary breaks, not measured current traffic. Where an official distance is available it is identified; other distances need confirmation for the chosen gate and lodge. Safari driving is additional.

Book these decisions first
Secure both permits and the correct sector before the one-way road and air arrangements. Confirm where the driver’s service ends and who provides the lodge-to-airstrip transfer. Do not assume a dropped-off vehicle remains available for the rest day.
Check the applicable chimpanzee tariff and UWA booking conditions in writing. The budget’s flight and optional activity exclusions are substantial and must be priced before treating the subtotal as an affordable package.

Day 1: Entebbe arrival
Rest and confirm the chimpanzee date, gorilla sector and return flight. Check the domestic baggage allowance before leaving items in the safari vehicle or carrying a large international suitcase.
Day 2: Road to Kibale
Allow the full transfer to the actual lodge and briefing area. UWA’s Kampala reference is about 326 km and six hours; an Entebbe start and local access add time. Keep the evening for preparation.
Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking
Attend the confirmed product’s briefing and keep the search duration flexible. The rest of the day is for a meal and recovery, not a compulsory onward drive. Confirm child eligibility in writing where relevant because official age sources conflict.
Day 4: A dedicated transfer to Bwindi
Use the route appropriate to the booked sector and current roads. This can be a long day, so do not advertise it as a full Queen Elizabeth safari too. Any paid park transit must be identified in the operator’s quote.
Day 5: Gorilla tracking
Keep the day for the trek and follow the ranger’s rules. Arrange porter support through the proper local process if needed and avoid a fixed afternoon departure.
Day 6: Forest-area rest or an optional guided interest
Use the extra night to recover, enjoy the setting or take a separately arranged authorised walk. A community visit should have a clear host and payment arrangement. It is not a second gorilla permit unless separately booked.
Day 7: Fly back to Entebbe
Transfer to the airstrip matched to your sector: confirm Kihihi or Kisoro and the actual road leg. Keep an Entebbe overnight rather than relying on an unprotected same-day international connection.
Day 8: International departure
Use a simple airport transfer with the required check-in margin. A local activity remains optional and should not consume the buffer.
A transparent budget you can adapt
The calculation below is an illustrative planning scenario for two adults sharing a room and a private road vehicle. Room, food and vehicle amounts are explicit assumptions chosen to make the arithmetic visible, not current supplier prices or a quote. Replace them with dated offers before booking.
Only the park and permit figures identified as published tariffs are sourced prices. Count paid access periods from the actual entry and exit times; the sample below does not establish how many tickets your operator will charge. Do not pay for a fee twice if it is already included in a package.
| Cost line | Basis | Per adult |
|---|---|---|
| Accommodation | 7 nights × assumed USD 160 per room ÷ 2 adults | USD 560 |
| Meals not included in the room | 8 days × assumed USD 25 per person | USD 200 |
| Road vehicle / driver allowance | 4 charged days × assumed USD 210 per vehicle ÷ 2 adults | USD 420 |
| Gorilla tracking | 1 regular foreign nonresident permit | USD 800 |
| Kibale chimpanzee illustration | Older USD 250 baseline; confirm interim 2026 rate or apply USD 300 regular tariff from 1 January 2027 | USD 250 |
| Bwindi-Entebbe flight and airstrip transfers | Current airline and lodge quote required | Excluded |
| Optional walks / paid transit | Only if required by the confirmed programme | Excluded |
| Illustrative subtotal per adult | Only the numeric lines above; exclusions still need pricing | USD 2,230 |
International and domestic flights, entry authorisation, insurance, optional activities, tips, drinks, excess baggage and any unconfirmed fee are excluded unless explicitly included above. Do not convert separate KES or UGX costs with an invented exchange rate.

How to adapt the route
For an all-road version, add enough time for the return journey and replace the flight with a confirmed vehicle quote. Do not remove the final Entebbe buffer merely to keep the same headline duration.
For a less intensive trip, choose one primate experience and stay longer around it. For a savanna stage as well, use the ten-day or fourteen-day circuit rather than hiding game drives within the long transfer.

Questions & answers
Is this a bookable package?
No. It is an editorial route with explicit budget assumptions. Obtain dated transport, accommodation and activity confirmations from providers.
Are the road times guaranteed?
No. The exact gate, lodge, traffic, weather and stops determine the journey. Keep daylight and a buffer before fixed departures.
Does the subtotal include every cost?
No. Read the exclusions and replace every assumed amount with a quote. Check whether a package already includes park or permit lines.
Should I add another destination?
Only after the actual transfers still leave worthwhile time at each base. Removing a stop is often the simplest way to protect the pace.
