Route and travel time
| Leg | Distance or geographic reference | Time to allow |
|---|---|---|
| Entebbe → Murchison base | Confirm gate and actual lodge route | Editorial allowance 6-8 hours |
| Murchison → Kibale area | A substantial cross-region leg; obtain exact routed kilometres | Editorial allowance 7-9 hours |
| Kibale → Queen Elizabeth | Specific base-to-base route required | Editorial allowance 3-4 hours |
| Queen Elizabeth → Bwindi | Mweya-Buhoma is about 160 km in UWA’s example; other sectors require different routes | Editorial allowance 4-7 hours |
| Bwindi → Lake Mburo → Entebbe | Two return stages, with UWA’s Mburo-Kampala reference about 228 km for the latter region | Allow 6-8 hours then 4-6 hours on separate days |
Road-time ranges are editorial planning allowances including ordinary breaks, not measured current traffic. Where an official distance is available it is identified; other distances need confirmation for the chosen gate and lodge. Safari driving is additional.

Book these decisions first
Secure the two primate dates and the correct Bwindi sector. Ask for a day-by-day quote showing park access periods, vehicle entry, boats and all overnight arrangements. Displayed older park rates are planning references that need confirmation for the actual travel date.
Clarify whether the same driver and vehicle serve the entire circuit, what happens after a breakdown and whether the route requires any night driving. Remove an optional stop if it creates an unrealistic arrival.

Day 1: Arrive in Entebbe
Meet the transfer, rest and check the confirmed permits and route. Keep the first evening simple.
Day 2: Travel to Murchison Falls
Use the exact gate and lodge approach. Any en-route stop needs its own time and fee, so choose it explicitly rather than adding it to an already full day by default.
Day 3: Murchison wildlife day
Explore a coherent drive area with the guide and allow breaks. Ask how the base’s river position affects the day’s transfers.
Day 4: River and falls interests
Use a confirmed boat product and authorised viewpoint plan. Do not assume a cruise includes every landing, walk or return pickup. Keep the programme paced around the actual departures.
Day 5: Transfer to the Kibale area
Reserve the day for the substantial western road connection, with meals and rest stops planned. Avoid a timed chimpanzee activity on arrival.
Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking
Attend the correct briefing and leave the rest of the day flexible. Use the current confirmed permit rules and disclose relevant health concerns.
Day 7: A quieter forest-edge or crater-lake day
Choose one locally guided activity with clear access and payment, or rest at the base. This day is space in the itinerary, not an invitation to add another distant park.
Day 8: Travel to Queen Elizabeth
Move to the selected northern-area base and fit any afternoon outing to the real arrival. Confirm the channel boat and next day’s programme.
Day 9: Queen Elizabeth safari and channel
Choose a balanced drive and boat plan. A Kyambura chimpanzee visit is a separate product and is not assumed in this route, which already includes Kibale.
Day 10: Transfer to Bwindi
Follow the sector-specific route. An Ishasha interest can be included only if it preserves a sensible arrival at the forest base and the next morning’s briefing logistics.
Day 11: Gorilla tracking
Keep the day for the trek and recovery. Take ranger instructions seriously and let the search duration determine the afternoon rather than a distant appointment.
Day 12: Road stage to Lake Mburo
Use the journey as a return-stage break with a proper overnight. A late activity is conditional on arrival and the entry period.
Day 13: Return to Entebbe
A short morning park interest can fit if the transfer remains comfortable. Keep the final overnight near the international gateway and confirm departure arrangements.
Day 14: Departure
Allow the airport’s required processing time and keep the morning local. The itinerary ends with margin rather than a final cross-country dash.
A transparent budget you can adapt
The calculation below is an illustrative planning scenario for two adults sharing a room and a private road vehicle. Room, food and vehicle amounts are explicit assumptions chosen to make the arithmetic visible, not current supplier prices or a quote. Replace them with dated offers before booking.
Only the park and permit figures identified as published tariffs are sourced prices. Count paid access periods from the actual entry and exit times; the sample below does not establish how many tickets your operator will charge. Do not pay for a fee twice if it is already included in a package.
| Cost line | Basis | Per adult |
|---|---|---|
| Accommodation | 13 nights × assumed USD 170 per room ÷ 2 adults | USD 1,105 |
| Meals not included in the room | 14 days × assumed USD 30 per person | USD 420 |
| Road vehicle / driver allowance | 12 charged days × assumed USD 220 per vehicle ÷ 2 adults | USD 1,320 |
| Gorilla tracking | 1 regular foreign nonresident permit | USD 800 |
| Kibale chimpanzee illustration | Older USD 250 baseline; confirm interim 2026 rate or use published USD 300 from 1 January 2027 | USD 250 |
| Murchison entry illustration | 3 periods × displayed / older adult nonresident USD 45; confirm | USD 135 |
| Queen Elizabeth entry illustration | 2 periods × displayed / older adult nonresident USD 40; confirm | USD 80 |
| Lake Mburo entry illustration | 1 period × displayed / older adult nonresident USD 40; confirm | USD 40 |
| Illustrative subtotal per adult | Only the numeric lines above; exclusions still need pricing | USD 4,150 |
International and domestic flights, entry authorisation, insurance, optional activities, tips, drinks, excess baggage and any unconfirmed fee are excluded unless explicitly included above. Do not convert separate KES or UGX costs with an invented exchange rate.

How to adapt the route
For less road time, omit Murchison and give the western bases more nights, or compare a correctly matched domestic flight. For stronger mountain or eastern interests, replace a major stage rather than adding Rwenzori, Jinja or Kidepo on top.
For a single-safari-park version, use the Murchison-versus-Queen Elizabeth comparison and keep the one that best serves the rest of the route.

Questions & answers
Is this a bookable package?
No. It is an editorial route with explicit budget assumptions. Obtain dated transport, accommodation and activity confirmations from providers.
Are the road times guaranteed?
No. The exact gate, lodge, traffic, weather and stops determine the journey. Keep daylight and a buffer before fixed departures.
Does the subtotal include every cost?
No. Read the exclusions and replace every assumed amount with a quote. Check whether a package already includes park or permit lines.
Should I add another destination?
Only after the actual transfers still leave worthwhile time at each base. Removing a stop is often the simplest way to protect the pace.
